welcome to Christ Church !
...your invitation
Christ Church is a place of great historical interest, but it exists primarily as a place of worship. We invite you to visit us, to come and join us for worship, to contact the Parish with enquiries, or to use its beauty and serenity to pray for your own concerns. We would like to think that the words of the prayer below may be true of our historic church and of the Parish community -
O God, make the door of this house wide enough to receive all who need human love and fellowship, narrow enough to shut out all envy, pride and strife.
Make its threshold smooth enough to be no stumbling-block to children, nor to straying feet, but rugged and strong enough to turn back the power of temptation.
God make the door of this house the gateway to your eternal kingdom. Amen.
THE OPEN CHURCH
Our famous, historic church is open most weekdays from noon to 2pm. To welcome tourists or pilgrims there is a team of church minders on duty.
For many years the church was shut and locked because we feared the risk of vandalism. Our church minders have helped us overcome problem. Now that it is open regularly, people are finding their way back, and Christ Church is becoming a place of sanctuary and prayer again. There is a brochure available to help visitors find their way to the features of the Church.
The church minders also have access to the emergency food cupboard which is stocked with food donated by the St. John of God Foundation and by the congregation, and so are a front line in our emergency welfare provision for those in need.
Can you spare two hours once a month to assist with church minding? As well as providing a community service this is an opportunity for you to have some personal space and quiet, to read a book, catch up on letters- or get to know your fellow church minder. For safety and security reasons there are always two people on duty each day, one of whom has a mobile phone. Interested? - The Vicar is the contact person .
