welcome to Christ Church !
...your invitation
Christ Church is a place of great historical interest, but it exists primarily as a place of worship. We invite you to visit us, to come and join us for worship, to contact the Parish with enquiries, or to use its beauty and serenity to pray for your own concerns. Whether you are visiting Geelong, or have moved to live in Geelong, you are welcome to come and see what happens at Christ Church.
We would like to think that the words of the prayer below may be true of our historic church and of the Parish community -
O God, make the door of this house wide enough to receive all who need human love and fellowship,
narrow enough to shut out all envy, pride and strife.
Make its threshold smooth enough to be no stumbling-block to children, nor to straying feet,
but rugged and strong enough to turn back the power of temptation.
God make the door of this house the gateway
to your eternal kingdom. Amen.
an
open Church...
This famous, historic church is open most weekdays from noon to 2pm. To welcome tourists or those who would like a quite space to think or to pray, away from the noise and bustle of the city, there is a team of church minders on duty.
Being open regularly, Christ Church is available as a place of sanctuary, peace and prayer. For those interested in the historic aspects of the Church and its stunning stained glass windows, and the historic Waller mural, there is a brochure available to help visitors find their way to the many features of Christ Church.
The church minders also have access to the emergency food cupboard which is stocked with food donated by the St. John of God Foundation and by the congregation, for those in need.
Volunteers with a couple of hours to spare once a month who would be interested in assisting with church minding, are always welcome. As well as providing a community service this is an opportunity for the minder, too, to have some personal space and quiet, to read a book, to catch up on letters - or get to know your fellow church minder. For safety and security reasons there are always two people on duty each day, at least one of whom has a mobile phone. Interested? - The Vicar is the contact person .
