Christ Church - Lent, Holy Week and Easter 2022

In 2022 the Lent season began with Ash Wednesday on 2nd March 2022, and continued through to Easter Day on Sunday 17th April 2022.

On this page the various celebrations associated wih Holy Week and Easter are shown for you to re-visit, or to use in your home worship if you couldn't be in church with us. As with all services recorded at Christ Church, these recordings were made live during the various services, so some congregational and background noise is audible, and your volume levels may need to be adjusted.

Ash Wednesday (2nd March 2022) Eucharist - the imposition of the Ashes

... the Ash Wednesday service was not recorded this year - but you can watch or listen to the Sermon for the Sunday following Ash Wednesday(6th March) if you click here.

 

Palm Sunday 2022 (10th April 2022)-the first Sunday of Holy Week, the services for this day included Eucharist at 8am (part recorded) and Choral Eucharist at 10am.These services included a grand procession of the Palms around the church, as we commemorated Jesus' triumphal entrance into Jesusalem, as well as his passion and death. The service included the reading of the Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark.

 

Monday 11th April 2022 at 7.30pm- the Stations of the Cross

At Christ Church, images of the fifteeen Stations are displayed in the Side Chapel and are always available to use for personal prayer or meditation. The Stations of the Cross Readings and Meditations are a special part of Holy Week, particularly on Easter Monday - but if you missed the service on 11th April or would like to re-visit the mediatations or use them at home as part of this Holy Week, all the images and the accompanying meditations can be seen by clicking here. After the readings of the Stations of the Cross and Meditations there was a short Eucharist and then Compline to conclude this time together.

Easter Tuesday, 12th April 2022 - Eucharist 7.30pm

Held in the Side Chapel at Christ Church, the recording of the reflective service includes Fr Graeme's Reflections on Easter Tuesday and the Intercessions for the day - you can go the this recording here. (8:44)

Easter Wednesday, 13th April 2022 - Eucharist 10am and 7.30pm

As Fr Graeme reminded us as the 10am service began, Jesus spent this day in silence in anticipation of and preparation for what was to come. The recording of this quiet service includes the Gospel, Fr Graeme's Reflections on Easter Wednesday, and the Intercessions for the day, accompanied by flute music played by Russell - you can go the the recording from the morning Eucharist service here. Maundy Thursday 14th April 2022 - Holy Eucharist at 7.30pm

We recalled the last supper and followed Jesus' command to wash one another's feet. Following Fr John's sermon and celebration of the Eucharist, the Altar was stripped and church slowly darkened, after which a Vigil took place until late in the evening. Good Friday -15th April 2022 at 10am

The Reading of the Passion; the Great Intercessions; and the Veneration of the Cross

The recording of this service includes much of the Good Friday Eucharist, including the reading of the Great Passion and the Great Intercession, the Hymns from the Choir and congregation, Fr Barry's sermon, and the Veneration of the Cross. You can watch the recording of this service here..

Good Friday -15th April 2022 at 5pm - Children's and Families Service - ... the Easter story presented for children, with singing and craft activities...

Easter Saturday - 16th April 2022- The Lighting of the New Fire, the Pascal Candle, and the renewal of Baptismal vows

This service will begin in darkness and is gradually illuminated by kindling new fire, as we celebrate Christ's Resurrection with the first Eucharist of Easter. The Pascal Candle goes forward enlightening the church, and Baptismal Vows are renewed.

Easter Day - Sunday 17th April 2022

- Eucharist at 8am, 10am and 5pm

The first Eucharist of Easter Day - including the Renewal of Baptismal Vows and Fr Graeme's Easter sermon. The recording includes the Readings, the Gospel, Fr Graeme's Sermon, and the Intercessions, and you can watch it here.
