Celebrate Holy Week and Easter 2023 at Christ Church !

On this page the various celebrations associated wih Holy Week and Easter are shown for you to re-visit, or to use at home if you couldn't be in church with us. As with all services recorded at Christ Church, the recordings were made live during the various services, so some congregational and background noise is audible, and your volume levels may need to be adjusted.

Palm Sunday 2023 (2nd April 2023)-the first Sunday of Holy Week, this recording of the 8am Eucharist includes the Passion according to St Matthew, and Fr Barry's reflections on Palm Sunday entitled Which procession are you part of? ... our choice as active Christians...The Palm Sunday Eucharist commemorates Jesus' triumphal entrance into Jesusalem, as well as his passion and death.

Monday 3rd April 2023 at 7.30pm- the Stations of the Cross

At Christ Church, images of the fifteeen Stations are displayed in the Side Chapel and are always available to use for personal prayer or meditation. The Stations of the Cross Readings and Meditations are a special part of Holy Week, and particularly on Easter Monday - but if you are unable to be at the service on 3rd April or would like to re-visit the mediatations or use them at home as part of this Holy Week, all the images and the accompanying meditations can be seen by clicking here.

Easter Tuesday, 4th April 2023 - Eucharist 7.30pm

This Eucharist, celebrated in the Side Chapel at Christ Church, was marked by the message 'we would see Jesus'. The recording. (15:41) includes the Old and New Testament Readings, and the Gospel, and Fr Barry's reflections on these readings and the links between them and to the journey through Holy Week

Easter Wednesday, 5th April 2023 - Eucharist at 10am and 7.30pm
- Jesus spent this day in silence in preparation for what was to come. This recording, from the evening service, includes the Readings and the Gospel, together with Fr Barry's commentary and reflections.

Maundy Thursday 6th April 2023 - Holy Eucharist at 7.30pm

The recording of this Eucharist service includes the Readings and Gospel, and Rev Jen's reflections on this day in Holy Week - "How willing am I to be served? to accept the Grace of God in our lives?" The congregation recalled the last supper and Jesus' command to wash one another's feet - with a small variation - and Fr Barry and the clergy team were joined by ordained ministers from the congregation for the Thanksgiving. Following the celebration of the Eucharist, the Altar and Sanctuary was stripped by the congregation, and the church was slowly darkened for the Easter Vigil. Good Friday -7th April 2023 at 10am - reading of the Passion, and Adoration of the Cross

This recording includes the Readings, the Passion according to St John, and Fr Ron's Noone's Good Friday address - How can we turn the Cross of Horror into the Cross of Hope? - and the Veneration of the Cross.

Holy Saturday - 8th April 2023 at 7.30pm - The First Eucharist of Easter, and Lighting of the New Fire

This service began in darkness and the church was gradually illuminated by kindling new fire, as we celebrated Christ's Resurrection with the first Eucharist of Easter. The Pascal Candle came forward enlightening the church, and Baptismal Vows were be renewed. This Eucharist was not recorded this year.

Easter Day - Sunday 9th April 2023

- Eucharist was celebrated at 8am, 10am and 5.15pm. Almost all of the 8am Eucharist was recorded, including the Readings and Gospel, some of the Easter hymns sung on this special day, and Fr Barry's Sermon Let us PROFESS faith - let us LIVE our faith..... learning to live by learning to die.
